Composer and sound artist, Alexandra Hamilton-Ayres marks the release of her new album, Lucid Distance (released 7 Nov on INNI), with a pre-release Listening Party at Rattle and Brash.
The album includes the first music ever recorded in the L.E.A.F. room at the European Space Agency. This 16.4m tall floating reverberation chamber (Europe’s largest), with giant nitrogen speakers that blast sound through horn-like structures, provided a vast acoustic canvas for Hamilton-Ayres. This contrasts with the personal and intimate origins of the 10-track collection, that began after hearing two heartbeats: her own and her daughter’s, beating together but to their own rhythms.
Alexandra will discuss the creative process that led to the creation of the album, before it’s played in full for your listening pleasure. Drinks provided.
